About Us

Activate is a pilot pioneering sport and wellbeing programme to enhance community, wellbeing and faith through sporting activity and fitness. It has been created by ten Anglican and Ecumenical partner churches around Bushy Park in the Hampton Deanery, working closely with the Diocese of London.

Activate has been conceived and developed within the strategic priorities of the Diocese's Capital Vision 2020 strategy, to help local churches to be more compassionate and creative in engaging their local communities through sport and wellbeing. As one of the seven pilot Dioceses of the Church of England's Sports and Wellbeing Programme, the long term vision is one of replication and roll out across Deaneries and Dioceses.

Initial start-up funding has been provided by the Diocese of London and the Kensington Area Council. Activate is committed to being sustainable in three years.

Activate operates under a Bishop's Mission Order (BMO) and is governed by a board of trustees. Current trustees are:

  • Mark Balcar - Diocese of London

  • Rev Richard Franks - Archdeacon of Kensington

  • Rev Tim Garrett - Area Dean of Hampton

  • Rev Joe Moffatt (Chair) - Hampton Deanery Synod

  • Anne O'Neil - Hampton Deanery Synod

  • Garth Watkins - Hampton Deanery Synod

  • Sarah Gough - Hampton Deanery Synod
