What is Activate?

Activate is a sport and activities-based programme seeking to enhance wellbeing and faith in Teddington, through fitness, health and community.

We seek to engage with all ages, abilities and people, to create fun, friendly (sometimes competitive) activity with a community focused approach to help people get or maintain being active, while creating local relationships that encourage and support.

In working in collaboration with the wider community partners including our schools, community groups and parks, and taking an evidence-based and place-based approach, we aim to use our buildings, staff and volunteers to:

  • Promote wellbeing for all – encouraging more activity and greater inclusion.

  • Connect communities – build partnerships, share resources, strengthen bonds.

  • Provide Chaplaincy and support for sport club members, teams and families.

  • Enable faith ‘where you are’ and provide inspiration along with perspiration – helping people to grow fitter together physically and spiritually.

While we are based in St Peter and St Paul Church, Teddington, our sporting activities will take place throughout the local area around Bushy Park, at a time and place to suit those involved.

Our activities will be wide ranging and there will be something for all abilities, including:

  • Running and cycling programmes

  • Soup + Stretch sessions for those with mobility problems

  • Social prescribing programmes

  • Couch to 5km programmes

  • Chaplaincy to local cricket and rugby clubs, their families, volunteers and staff

  • Mums and babies exercise classes

  • Sport based youth events

  • After school and school holiday clubs

  • 'Pop up church' at local sports events

  • Sunday evening and mid-week sports based prayer services and study courses

We will regularly review the programme of activities to ensure we are meeting the needs of our community and will also make certain that it is tailored to meet the challenges of the current pandemic.

We will be supporting different members of our community including the:

  • Inactive and active of all ages

  • Vulnerable and deprived

  • Children and young families

  • Youth and young adults

Activate's vision and outreach is rooted in Christian doctrine and seeks to build community through activity that invigorates faith. We will champion the marginalised and will work with the vulnerable and isolated to bring them into community through relationship and activity, as we seek to find the God given potential in young and old, able or infirmed and low in self-esteem or confidence.

Why not come join in with us today?
